Description
Amitabha is the most ancient Buddha among the Dhyani Buddhas. Buddha
Amitabha is shown seated in samadhi mudra. The whole of the right hand
is cradled by the left with a heart shaped alms bowl held in his two
palms. Here the hand gesture, representing meditative equipoise,
represents the unity of wisdom and compassion. His symbolic syllable is
HRIH. H, is the sound of breath, the symbol of all life. R, is the
sound of fire. I, is the intensity of vibration which stands for the
highest spiritual activity. His red colour bears the meaning that
compassion is enamored of all living beings. The colour of love (raga)
is red in the Buddhist tradition.
Through his knowledge of discriminative wisdom, a Bodhisattva understands the empty nature of all sentient beings and develops great compassion for them. This is the dhyana or meditation of Buddha Amitabha. Buddha Amitabha is the head of the Padma, or Lotus family.
This hand painted, lost wax method copper sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand cast by the very talented artists of the beautiful country of Nepal. Every piece is truly unique!
