Description
This Newari style Padmapani statue is distinguished by its high topknot
which is gathered by a diadem with Amitabha Buddha in the center as his
spiritual sire. Bodhisattva Padmapani is the most popular form of
Avalokiteshvara in Nepal.
The Bodhisattva stands with his right hand lowered at his side in the gesture of generosity (varada mudra), with a sash falling across his thighs, tied above the left knee. He holds a lotus flower with his left hand that blossoms at the level of the shoulder and stands atop a round double lotus base. A beautiful and elegant Newari work of art!
