Description
Tara was born from a tear of the Bodhisattva of compassion,
Avalokiteshvara. She holds a very prominent position in Tibet and
Nepal. Tara is believed to protect all beings while they are
crossing the ocean of existence.
Here, Tara is represented in a standing pose known as samapada asana. She is dressed and crowned like a Bodhisattva. Tara's right hand is in Varada Mudra (boon-giving gesture), her left hand is in Jnana Mudra holding the stem of the lotus on her left shoulder. Her hair is bound up at the back; her breasts are full; she is adorned with jewelry and stands atop a double lotus base.
This is a very unique statue, the only one in this particular style we have come across in the past 10 years.
