This Avalokiteshvara statue has a rich antique patina and is mounted
onto a small black
wood display base.
Avalokiteshvara, the god of mercy and compassion is portrayed as a young man. He holds a lotus flower in his left hand, signifying his status as a deity.
This piece reflects the superb craftsmanship of Javanese metal workers and bears all the hallmarks of Javanese sculptural style, as evident by its round head.
Its broad, majestic and serene face has lowered eyes that suggest contemplation.
