This antique Buddha statue is gilded with glass mosaic, thayo lacquer decoration and porcelain eyes. It is an exceptionally beautiful Burmese teakwood royal Buddha statue with intricately detailed robes and regalia befitting a Royal King.
This style of Lord Buddha dressed in royal regalia is referred to as Jambupati style which became popular during the Konbaung dynasty, between 1752-1885 in Myanmar (Burma).
The Buddha dressed in royal regalia relates to the legend of King Jambupati, an arrogant and powerful king who ruled during the time of the Buddha’s lifetime. This style also became popular in Northern Thailand and Cambodia, with each having their own distinctive styles. They are beautiful and impressive works of art!
