Description
This antique marble statue of Lord Buddha with its rounded face, shoulder-touching earlobes, and finial atop a broad, low ushnisha is typical of the late Ava Dynasty. The sculpture is mounted on a high-waisted double lotus throne with carved petals.
Lord Buddha is seated in padmasana, the right hand with fingers of equal length extends over the knee in the bhumisparsa mudra (earth touching gesture). The right shoulder is bare, and the robes have been emphasized by folding flaps of cloth over the left shoulder that extends to the waist.
This marble sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand carved by the very talented artists of Myanmar (Burma). Every piece is truly unique!
